Caverion has been awarded a follow-up contract by Fraport AG for the new Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport. Acting as the main contractor, Caverion will deliver the building services disciplines of plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation and sprinkler systems for the head building at Pier G. The value of the contract is in the low double-digit million euro range.
Caverion has already played a key role in the delivery of several building systems packages for the main terminal building as well as Piers G and J at the new Terminal 3.
The head building of Pier G is the central functional hub of the pier and is currently being fully fitted out. The building comprises a gross floor area of approximately 22,000 square metres across three floors. It will accommodate passenger processing functions and provide office space for up to 100 employees.
"We are carrying out the works while airport operations continue uninterrupted, which creates particularly demanding installation conditions", says Jürgen Wüsteney, Head of Large Projects at Caverion Germany. "As the project is located within a security-restricted area, personnel and materials are subject to security checks several times a day. Around one-third of the installation work must be completed during night-time hours."
The scope of works includes the installation of two chillers, each providing 1 MW of cooling capacity. Four air handling units will deliver a total air volume flow of 130,000 m³/h. In addition, Caverion will install 7,000 sprinkler heads throughout the building. The heating supply will be connected to the existing airport infrastructure.
Caverion started work on the project in October 2026. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
